Greening Tourism with the Trees for Travel Event at the Vineyard Hotel

Tourism is a major contributor to our globe’s rising carbon footprint. In an effort to raise awareness in the tourism industry, GreenPop took to the eco-friendly Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town for the Trees For Travel event, beautifully co-ordinated by My Green Love Affair.

Travel agents from all over the Western Cape enjoyed an informative talk by GreenPop while sipping on some Stellar Organics sparkling wine – a fresh and bubbly favourite, perfect for celebrating the green-all-over event. We also held an informal tasting, and had a great time connecting with like-minded ‘greenies’.

Did you know?

  • Rapidly expanding air traffic contributes about 2.5% of the production of CO2, and in 2012, flights produced 689 million tonnes of CO2. The number of international travellers is expected to increase from 594 million in 1996 to 1.6 billion by 2020.

  • Forests often suffer negative impacts of tourism in the form of deforestation, caused by fuel wood collection and land clearing. Deforestation is a major contributing factor to land-degradation and poverty.
