Meet Izelle Swanepoel, Stellar’s First Female Winemaker

We take great pleasure in introducing you to our new winemaker, Izelle Swanepoel. Izelle is one of the few young female winemakers in South Africa who makes organic, fair trade wine.

Izelle was born in 1990 in Pretoria. Soon after her birth, her family moved to Melkbosstrand, a small coastal town near the city of Cape Town, where she grew up with her two siblings. She attended a local primary school and matriculated at Durbanville High School in 2008.

Izelle attended Elsenburg and graduated with a B.Agriculture in Cellar technology in 2013. In early 2014 she started as the only harvest assistant at Plaisir de Merle, a celebrated winery of the Distell group. Later that year she spent several months in the Napa Valley. She worked as a winemaking intern during harvest at Artesa, an award-winning winery famous for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Izelle returned home for the holidays and started working at Stellar as an assistant winemaker in 2015. We’d like to wish Izelle a warm welcome to the Stellar team, and a long and prosperous career making great wines in harmony with nature.
