Stellar Winery, in collaboration with Life Occupational Health, recently hosted a very successful wellness day for its farmworkers.
Voluntary cholesterol, blood pressure and HIV testing was available to all workers. Important health and medical information was also given to all those who were interested. Thanks to Old Mutual, four medical sisters were able to join our Medical Officer, Kim Roux, and Magda to help them attend to everyone.
Other organisations that contributed to our Wellness Day included Metropolitan and TEDCOR, a recycling company that joined us to share their wonderful work. The Department of Labour also had a stall and the department head, Mrs Rhyni van Niekerk, did a great job of bringing the Worker’s Committee up to speed on the latest laws and standards.
Jerome Thomas from Kanonkop Wine Estate, Farmworker of the Year 2014, was our guest of honour for the day. He gave a heartfelt motivational talk and reminisced about the late Marie Malan – a Stellar icon who won Farmworker of the Year 2009 and made a huge impact on everyone she met.
