We give a quack! Here’s Why Our Runner Ducks Rule

The Indian Runner ducks that patrol our vineyards are one of the “teams” that make Stellar so special.

They roam freely in the vineyards during the day and are loved and well cared for. They patrol the vineyards for “delicious” snails and other bugs, which are part of their regular diet in the wild.

Hello duckling!

It’s important to note that because we practice organic viticulture, the ducks have a completely natural home to thrive in, free from any chemicals. And boy, do they thrive – they’ve been breeding incredibly well.

The ducks also enjoy the watering holes. There is also a safe place to go at night to keep them protected from any potential predators. On each of the farms, there is a duck caretaker who makes sure that all their needs are met.

An example of which is Oom Koos. We like to call him “the duck whisperer”.

We love our ducks so much, we named a wine after them.

The Running Duck brand is an ode to our feathered friends, with global sales of over 1 million bottles since the beginning of 2013. It’s far and away our most successful bottled brand. It’s even been stocked in the cellars of Buckingham Palace.

A new Running Duck label was introduced in the UK in March and is now also in The Netherlands. It’s doing well and plans are afoot to introduce the range in bag-in-box in selected markets.
